Artificial intelligence: friend or foe?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a rapidly evolving field and it’s having a major impact on our world. From medical diagnosis to content generation to AI-powered weapons. It’s changing the way we live, work and play.
In this episode, we talk to two experts in the field: Dr Andy Lingard, Portfolio Development Leader in Insurance Technology at WTW, and Dr Eleanor Drage, Senior Research Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence at the University of Cambridge.
We discuss the latest developments in AI, specific applications for the investment industry, the ethical implications, and the future of this technology.
AI is a powerful technology and it’s going to get even more powerful. It can be applied by people for good and also for ill. I think it will be up to governments, regulators, tech companies and society more widely to make the right choices. Honestly, I don’t think it’s going to be an easy ride.
Dr Andy Lingard, Portfolio Development Leader, Insurance Technology at WTW
We have always been technological creatures since we used fire, wheels and spears. And so AI is part of us and once we recognize that, then perhaps we can stop thinking in terms of dystopia and utopia.
Dr Eleanor Drage, Senior Research Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence at the University of Cambridge
