Bonus: Global Pension Assets Study 2023
The Global Pension Assets Study estimates global pension fund assets across 22 major pension markets (the P22), which at the end of 2022 had estimated pension assets of USD 47,861 bn. This is an expected 16.7% decrease in pension asset value from 2021.
In this special bonus episode, we chat with Anastassia Johnson and Jessica Gao, researchers at the Thinking Ahead Institute about key figures from the study, core themes from the year and challenges for the year ahead.
After a decade of growth, this is the first time we see global pension asset value (considerably) decrease, in 2022. A nearly 17% drop. In a way, it is almost as expected given how the market performed in 2022. The performance of the pension assets synchronized with the capital markets return, which indeed had a very tough year.
